NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — Monsignor Farrell went 4-0 and senior Ben Villaret broke the Staten Island and New York City all-time wins record with three victories Saturday at the CHSAA Duals at Iona Prep.

The Lions rolled to four routs — 64-14 over Fordham Prep, 66-18 over Mount St. Michael’s, 60-19 over Salesian and 66-15 over Iona Prep — and are on the verge of clinching another top seed for the four-team city championship duals.

Chris Amendola was 4-0 on the day, Tim McCann went 3-0 and Tony Carlo 2-0 for the Lions.

Villaret went a perfect 3-0, tying the Island and city career wins records (held by Brian Traub of Petrides who graduated last year with 147) with his first victory of the day.

"It’s a big accomplishment, a goal I’ve had for a while," said Villaret, who has 149 career wins and a lot of season ahead.

The Island wins mark has been broken four times since 2007, but Villaret is aiming to put it out of reach by the end of this season.

"I’m looking to get to 180. That’s a big number, but I think I can get it. And if I do get it that high, it’s going to be tough for people to get there," he said. "It’s all in my goals as we work toward Catholic States. I just want to keep going and keep winning because States is what is important."

St. Peter’s also had a big day. The Eagles went 3-1, losing to Fordham, 42-37, but beating Iona Prep 48-33, taking down Salesian 46-43 and scoring a big win over Mount, 40-36.

"That was a little unexpected," said St. Peter’s coach Tristain Haggerty, whose team is in control of its city playoff destiny. "(Mount is) very good, but I thought we wrestled well against them."

St. Joseph by-the-Sea went 2-2. The Vikings topped Iona 48-33 and defeated Salesian 45-41, but fell to Mount 57-27 and Fordham 44-39 in the final match of the day. The Vikings were led by 4-0 days from John Lobo and Brendan Sierp.

NOTES:The CHSAA Duals were scheduled to conclude today, but Day 2 was postponed by the lousy weather. Yesterday, only the crossover matches between upstate and downstate teams were wrestled. The downstate schools (Farrell, St. Peter’s, St. Joseph by-the-Sea, Xaverian and Xavier) will have to schedule each other in the first two weeks of January to determine seeding, as will the upstate schools (Fordham Prep, Iona Prep, Salesian and Mt. St. Michael’s).
